Hi, I’m Amelie, a Claims Leader in Aviva’s Claims Resolution Centre in Montreal. I started at Aviva over 5 years ago and I’ve come a long way since I spent my summers working as a lifeguard. I started my professional career working at a bank, but after 5 years I wanted to do something more fulfilling and challenging, so I went back to school to study insurance. During my studies, though I learned about all aspects of the industry, I became very interested in Claims. After I finished school, I spent 3 years working as an Auto Claims Adjuster and then moved into a Coach role where I was able to work side-by-side with more junior adjusters and help them develop their technical knowledge. I now lead a team of 7 Auto Claims Adjusters and my principal role is to make sure we always deliver our best to our customers. I am in the work with my adjusters every day to support them and remove obstacles for them to improve their employee experience and allow them to do what is right for our customers. My favourite thing about working at Aviva is the high quality relationships I’ve been able to build with my colleagues. Aviva makes sure to engage people who have a lot of heart and are motivated to make a difference!
Hear from our people
Hello, I’m Jaclyn. I lead team of Claims Adjusters in Aviva’s Lifestyle business. I’ve worked hard to develop my customer service skills since I started out as a singing cashier in a fast-food restaurant! When I graduated from university in the middle of a recession, my roommate recommended a role as a front-line Claims Adjuster as a great way to get into a stable, well-paid office job where I could feel good about helping people every day. From there, I’ve had the opportunity to handle a variety of personal and commercial claims including heavy trucking, cargo, auto, liability and litigation claims. I’ve also had the opportunity to work on significant projects like building a new claims system and managing large commercial accounts. With all of that under my belt, I made the decision to join Aviva’s new Lifestyle Claims team to deliver a unique customer experience for our niche products like travel trailers, cottages, motorcycles, motor homes, manufactured homes, race cars and watercraft. My favourite thing about working at Aviva is the amount of collaboration that goes on across teams in Claims and Underwriting. Never before have I seen those functions work so closely together. We have a great team especially when we work together as a whole!
Hi, I’m John, the Assistant Vice-President of Finance Operations in Aviva’s Change and Delivery team. Prior to joining Aviva over 10 years ago, I started my career in the consumer packaged goods and manufacturing industries, where I held a variety of Finance roles from being an Operations Analyst in a distribution center, to financial reporting, financial compliance work and finance systems implementation. When I joined Aviva, I was actually surprised to have been selected for the role as I didn’t have any prior insurance experience, but my senior leaders at the time convinced me of Aviva’s focus on bringing in the best talent from all industries in order to make Aviva a leading company in the field of insurance. In my current role, I lead a team and we are accountable for delivering change initiatives in conjunction with our local market and our international teams in order to drive process efficiency and cost effectiveness, and more importantly, to support our business teams in delivering their best to our customers. Aviva’s corporate responsibility in supporting local communities and the way we care about our insureds, as evidenced from customers’ testimonies, has made Aviva the place where I have developed my career. That, and the people, are my favourite things about working at Aviva for many years to come!
Hello, I’m Karan. I am a Senior Manager of Performance Management on Aviva’s Finance team. I started out my working life when I delivered newspapers and it’s been quite a journey from that first summer job. When I was graduating from university, I came upon a job in the insurance industry and decided to give it a try. I started out in Underwriting and spent the next few years doing roles in Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, as well as roles where I was responsible for financial analysis, budgeting and expense management. Today, I partner with Aviva’s business groups in order to analyze our financial performance against our past performance, our goals and our competitors. I help the business teams to understand where we’re performing well, and where we have areas of opportunity so that they are able to make key strategic decisions in a timely manner. My favourite thing about working at Aviva are the people on my team. I have been lucky to learn a lot along the way, which is extremely important for me as a professional, and I have formed great relationships with my colleagues!
Hi, I’m Sebastien. I’m a Commercial Unit Manager in one of Aviva’s Montreal offices. My first job was in the sporting department of a retail chain, but having an insurance broker as a father meant that this is a field that I’ve been around since my childhood. In 2004, I decided to complete a college certificate in insurance which I was able to translate into a career in Aviva’s Commercial Auto business, first in a temporary role as an Underwriting Assistant, and then a permanent role as a Junior Underwriter. Since then, I’ve progressed in knowledge and experience and am now proud to lead a team of Underwriters who write all of Aviva’s Commercial Auto business for the province of Quebec. Working at Aviva is just like being part of a big family. We take care of each other. We also show the same level of dedication to taking care of our clients and brokers, assuring peace of mind for our partners and clients!
Hi, I’m Shane. I am a Technology Services Manager in Aviva’s Engineering and DevOps team. At the start of my career, I was a Plant Automation Engineer, delivering software and automation solutions in manufacturing plants. After that, I had done some work in the Financial Services industry, but joining Aviva was my first foray into Insurance. I started at Aviva when I had returned to Ireland from having lived and worked in Australia. Here at Aviva, I’ve held the roles of Developer, Technical Lead and Manager. Then, in 2016, I was given the unique opportunity of taking an inter-company transfer and moving from Aviva’s operation in Ireland to our operation here in Canada. It has been a fantastic opportunity, both personally and professionally. Today, I hold what I feel has been the most exciting role yet. My team and I are helping shape Aviva’s software delivery to optimize security, quality and availability. It’s a great initiative because at the heart of it, we are trying to improve the culture in the organization to make Aviva an even better place to work. My favourite thing about working at Aviva is that we are there when our customers need us most. I feel really good about working for a company that helps people when the unexpected goes wrong, so that the customer can navigate these events without having their plans and aspirations derailed by chance.
Hello, I’m Shishir and I am the Assistant Vice-President of Enterprise Delivery in Aviva’s IT department. I started my career as a web developer where I built a search dashboard for a telecommunications company in Australia. Early in my career, I had the opportunity to build a software product which made the interactions between independent Claims Adjusters with insurance companies seamless. This got me really interested in insurance and I have been working in the industry ever since. I have had the opportunity to work as a consultant as well as to lead the Business Analysis team at Aviva, which worked on transformation and business strategy projects. In my role today, I manage the transformation portfolio, I support the office of the CIO, and I lead the Robotics Process Automation practice – all while managing a team! My favourite thing about working at Aviva has been getting to work with the top talent in the insurance industry. It has been a massive opportunity to learn and share and to make a difference in lives of our customers.
Hi, I’m Stacey and I am the Assistant Vice-President of Reserving in Aviva’s Corporate Actuarial team. Math had always been my passion, so when I was getting ready to go to university, my calculus teacher suggested studying actuarial science, and I haven’t looked back since. My first job was working as an Actuarial Analyst with RBC Insurance, which was later purchased by Aviva in 2016. Though I started in the Pricing Actuarial team, a really great manager and mentor of mine suggested that I broaden my skillset by taking on a role in Reserving. In a nutshell, my team of Reserving Actuaries and I use data and analytics to estimate how many claims are expected and how much money we need to set aside to fulfill our responsibilities to our customers. My favourite thing about Aviva is that we are best in class for giving back to our communities. In 2019, we have started a new chapter in our corporate responsibility journey that focuses on making safer roads a reality for everyone across Canada. Our combined knowledge, real-time data, innovative technology and tailored interactions with our customers can greatly help making our roads safer and insurance more affordable and Aviva is taking the lead on this across our industry.
Hi, I’m Travis and I’m a Commercial Unit Manager in Aviva’s Edmonton office. It’s been quite a career journey for me, which all started in the mailroom of one of Aviva’s predecessor companies. While I had initially studied Finance, I landed my first job in insurance in 2001 through my personal network, and have been working my way up ever since. From the mailroom, I took on roles Commercial Underwriting where I had the chance to become an Auto Specialist and even work outside of the office as a Field Underwriter. I now lead a team of Underwriters who write business for Commercial Auto and Property & Casualty brokers and customers. Going from a role in the field specializing in Commercial Auto to leading a team which also works with Property & Casualty files has been the most difficult but satisfying transition of my career. There is a lot that I love about working at Aviva as an employee, as a businessperson and as a team member. One especially anticipated event is the “Edmonton Office Olympics.” This is a 2-week event that happens every year that involves the entire Edmonton office playing kids’ games for medals, chocolate bars and trophies. Everyone in our office looks forward to it!
